Value Added Tax is often an unseen expense on nearly every purchase we make. It is a tax added to products at each stage of production until it reaches the customer. The current rate of VAT is 20% (for most goods and services). Fortunately, many of the products available on the Able-Aid store are eligible for VAT relief. Find out more below.
What is VAT Relief?
VAT Relief removes the additional 20% value added tax to certain purchases. It is not a form of refund and cannot be claimed back from prior purchases.
If you or a loved one suffers from a form of disability, many products that are purchased as a result of the condition are subject to VAT relief. A person qualifies for VAT relief if the individual suffers from any of the following:
- A physical or mental disability that turns regular tasks into difficult ones.
- A terminal illness
- A recognised chronic illness
VAT Relief is not just limited to purchases, the exemption also applies to hired goods.
