Riser Recliners: The Choice of Single, Dual or Quad Action Motors

Read time: 3 min

When choosing a recliner, people focus on cushions and fabric; many don’t consider motor type until later. Here is what you need to know about motor types:

The Importance of Riser Recliners and Tilt-In-Space

Riser Recliners are more than simple armchairs; the rising and reclining actions provide added comfort and lessen the strain of standing for those with limited mobility. Our range almost exclusively offers tilt-in-space operation. This means that the tilt action happens as one unit, without changing the angle between your hips, knees, and torso. This allows the user to maintain the optimum body position while providing better circulation, pressure relief and more.

Why Motor Type Matters

The motor type does not directly reflect on a chair’s quality and level of comfort.  For this, you will want to look into the upholstery and back type. Often, for extra comfort, back cushions can be improved with added interior padding and cushions.

Instead, whether it is a single, double or quad-action motor is more about versatility of positioning and adjustability. The more motors, the more control the user has over their sitting position.

A Guide to The Different Motors

Now that we know what motor types are all about, what does each motor do?

Single-Action Motor

A single-action riser recliner only has one motor that controls the recliner legs and back movement. The control will only have two buttons. One that raises and the other that reclines the chair. This leaves little adjustability outside of how raised or reclined it is.

Dual-Action Motor

A dual-action riser recliner, as you may expect, has two motors. This separates the back movement from the leg movement. While the controls will have a simple rise or recline function in the same manner as the single action, it has two extra buttons. This allows the user to adjust the back and legs to their chosen angle.

Quad-Action Motor

A quad-action riser recliner has four motors. As with the dual-action, the back and legs can be adjusted independently. However, for added versatility, the quad-action allows the user to adjust the lumbar area and the headrest. This might be perfect for those who need a particular postural support.

Which one is right for you?

Many may look at the features and benefits of each motor and come to the conclusion that more versatility is automatically the better choice. This may well be the case for some. However, the extra options may not serve everybody.
