What you need to know about home Ramp Installations

Read time: 3 min

Ramp installations are an excellent way to improve day-to-day mobility around the home. Many different options are available, and the process of getting an installation is very simple. This blog will boil down the process to make the prospect a little less daunting.

It can feel like a big change to begin adapting the home to fit mobility needs, but it is one of the most effective ways to improve long-term quality of daily life. After a serious and sudden change, like an unexpected injury confining one to a wheelchair or limiting general mobility, the need for ramps around the house can be clear. When mobility has been in gradual decline, it is best to consider the growing risks the resident faces every day.

Getting Started

To start the process, you will need to go to our contact page or give the team a call. From there, we will need to perform an assessment. These are best done in person, where we can assess the specific needs of the client, but can be done on the phone. Here we will discuss the physical restrictions of the client, their general mobility and anything else we need to know. Next, we will begin the measuring up process. This will need to be onsite and may be the ultimate determiner of what kind of ramp is needed.

Ramp types

Our team will talk to the client about the different types of ramps we can provide. We offer three primary ramp types, each fit for different scenarios and budgets.

  • Portable ramps can easily be placed down and lifted up as the user needs. Obviously, these require limited installation. The team will go through how to place for the safest means of use.
  • Modular ramps require installation and are built piece by piece using pipes and a support structure. They can be built to fit the home, but do not alter the home permanently, outside of drill holes and cosmetic changes.
  • Permanent ramps, once again, are built to fit the home. As the name suggests, however, these will permanently adjust the makeup of the home and cannot be uninstalled without significant work. These are ideal for elder residences and can even improve the house’s prospects in the area.

Installation

The installation itself is largely dependent on the specifics of ramp choice and location. The team will break down the length and process of the installation before any work begins.

Able-Aid offer a variety of different installation options, from ramps and handrails to stairlifts. For further information about the process and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with the team to find out more. Alternatively, you can book a free consultation.
